Why brain-based therapy?

Everyone has had the experience of feeling depressed, anxious, and overwhelmed with their lives at some point. It is normal and natural to have feelings as they are a part of being human. However, for some, these feelings are pervasive moods that get in the way of living life fully. It’s as though these emotions take center stage in one’s life and everyone and everything else falls by the wayside. If this is happening to you, you are not alone.

In my practice, I work with individuals, couples, and families to help them understand their personality, needs and emotions. Most people come to me because something in their life isn’t working and they need help changing dysfunctional patterns of behavior, thinking or emotions. Many come for the treatment of anxiety, depression, impulse control, eating disorders, and relationship and family issues, Whatever the reason, we immediately start working to build awareness of the automatic habits of mind; fears that limit living life fully; and emotionally driven behavior that destroy rather than create relationships.

My approach includes helping each client understand how their brain is organized and the psychological need that must be met in order to thrive in life. I teach clients how to live life to the fullest, not simply surviving. Clients learn what drives them, what energizes them, and how they are most likely to behave when they are not getting their needs me. Using a brain-based approach, clients gain insight into their relationship style and what causes them to behave the way they do in relationships.
